While everyone was restoring the shattered village of Konoha, Koya thought it best to pay a visit to the hospital where many of her friends were being tended to. But there was one person in particular she was visiting that she needed to talk to.

She knocked on the door and when she was given permission to enter, she saw a beautiful young girl sitting up in her bed smiling back.

“Koya-chan! This is surprise. What are you doing here?”

“Hey Hinata-chan. I wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing.”

“That is sweet of you. I’m doing much better now thank you.”

Koya took a seat next to her bed. “Listen Hinata-chan... I came here to ask you something...”

“What is it Koya-chan?”

“How... did it feel when you... you know... told Naruto how you felt?”

She blushed and waved her hands. “D-D-Don’t remind m-me of that!! It w-was so embarrassing!!”

“But how did you feel? Getting your feelings finally out in the open?”

She looked down at her lap and smiled. “It felt good finally getting those words off my chest. It may have been bad timing, but I felt it was the proper time to let him know that I care deeply about him.”

“Did he say anything back to you yet?”

She shook her head. “No. But I know he’s been busy dealing with Pain and now all the Kages are gathering for Sasuke-kun’s execution... I’m just happy to know it’s out in the open and now he can take his time to tell me how he feels; whether he returns my feelings or not, I’m happy to have done what I did.”

Koya grabbed her hands and held them close. “I’m rooting for you, Hinata-chan! He better return your feelings or I’ll kick his ass!”

She giggled. “You’re very sweet. Koya-chan. But why are you so interested in this matter?”

She leaned back and lowered her head, feeling the need to hide her face from the Hyuuga woman. “W-Well... After seeing what you have done and confessing your love to Naruto, it gave me a powerful inspiration to confess my own feelings to Shikamaru-kun...”

“I-I did?”

She nodded. “Your bravery has given me the courage to lay all my cards on the table and finally speak from the heart. That is why I have decided to tell Shikamaru-kun how I feel... today.”

Hinata’s face lite up. “Really? That is amazing, Koya-chan! Good for you! I wish you the best of luck!”

“Thank you, Hinata-chan. I’m wishing you luck too!” She winked.

Koya could hear her hound Haiiromaru getting impatient standing outside of the door and that was her que to leave.

------------------

She headed towards the Chuunin tents stationed outside of the village and went immediately to Shikamaru’s post. She opened the flap and entered, finding Shikamaru standing with three other Chuunin leaders.  He was still on crutches from his broken leg. Koya guessed Sakura hadn’t gotten to him yet to fully heal his leg.

Face unchanged, she walked straight up to him. “Shikamaru-kun, I was wondering if you have a moment to talk?”

“Sure, what is it?”

“Well, is it possible to go somewhere private?”

“I’m actually discussing some important matters with these guys right now.”

“I see...”

He could see the disappointment in her face and sighed. “I should finish up here in about an hour. Can we talk then?”

Her face lite up. “Of course! Can we meet on top of Bubble Hill?”

“Sure. I’ll see you in an hour.”

She happily left the tent with the other chuunin members giggling and staring curiously at Shikamaru. He blushed. “B-Bubble Hill was her idea. It’s because... erm... oh forget it.”

------------------

An hour past faster than Koya would’ve thought. She waited the entire time on top of Bubble Hill until the promised time. She helped the time pass by practicing what to say with Haiiromaru as her only audience. She heard footsteps walking from behind her. She turned around and happily saw Shikamaru approaching her like he promised.

“Hey, Koya.”

“Hi Shikamaru-kun! I’m so happy you came.”

“Well I said I would. So what’s so important that you needed to speak in private about?”

All of a sudden she felt weak in the legs and her heart was pounding mad in her chest. I’m getting nervous now? Why in the world is it starting now?!  I was fine all day! She swallowed and took a step forward. Haiiromaru watched with anticipation under a tree. “Y-Yes, well, you and I have been friends for a long time, right?”

He thought about it for a moment. “Yeah, I think ever since your brother introduced me to you back when we were still in school. We were really little weren’t we?”

She nodded. “Y-Yeah... really little.” Enough small talk! Just tell him already dammit! She yelled at herself. “Look, I’m just going to come out and say it.” Shikamaru kept looking at her, waiting patiently for her to get to the point. She took one deep breath before speaking. “I love you. Ever since the moment I met you I have loved you.”

She waited for him to reply with her eyes closed, embarrassed yet proud of what she had been meaning to say for years. His silence was slowly killing her even though only a few seconds had gone by. She could hear a low mumble, like he was holding his breath. Wait... was he... laughing?! She opened her eyes and sure enough a smile was spread across his face as he chuckled. She didn’t know how to feel. Embarrassed? Insulted? Depressed? What the hell was so funny?!

He placed his hand on his face like he did when something annoyed him. “So, let’s see here... so it took you about 6 years to finally tell me, huh?”

She blinked, confused. “Wait... what? I don’t understand... You mean you knew?”

“Not right away I’ll admit. Kiba actually had to tell me a couple years ago.”

“HE WHAT?!”

“Don’t blame him. He was pissed at me and sort of let the secret slip.”

“Why...? He promised me he wouldn’t tell!”

He rubbed the back of his head and sighed. “That’s... my fault actually. He told me you do so much for me and I that I never noticed. I guess you were upset or something when he told me. Once he told me, I started noticing the way you acted around me.”

“S-So... you knew this entire time? And you didn’t tell me? I-I... I feel so stupid...!”

He walked closer and leaned over her, giving her a gentle bop on the head. “What are you talking about? I'm the one that feels stupid for not noticing your hard work. I... just don't pay attention in that area..."

"But then you did. And you didn't... want to say anything to me?"

"Sure, but I wanted to hear it from you since it's suppose to be a secret." He leaned closer, a gently touched her cheek. They were both blushing. He swallowed his embarrassment and continued. “Now that I finally heard it from you, I can give an answer after thinking on it for two years..."

Her heart skipped a beat and she waited patiently for his next words. "Shikamaru-kun..."

"I... really like you. More than I ever thought I would for anybody."

He kissed her, embracing her with his free hand. She wrapped her arms around his neck gently, not wanting to throw him off balance with his crutch. She felt like this was too good to be real. If it was a dream she never wanted to wake up, but that was the best part; it was real and best of all her feelings were returned. All of her fears had finally faded away for good.

When their lips parted, Shikamaru held Koya in a loving hug. He let out a shy laugh. “Heh. This is why girls can be so troublesome.”

She couldn’t help but giggle. “We’re quite emotional and complicated creatures, aren’t we?”

"Exactly."

Feeling left out, Haiiromaru joined them in their embrace and leaned up against them. Koya laughed. “Aww don't be jealous Haiiromaru."

Shikamaru re balanced himself from the weight of the wolf. “I-I thought he didn’t like me.”

"I think this moment changed his mind. He never liked your attitude before." She grinned.

“Huh?”

“I... I was nervous whenever you said girls were troublesome. I felt like I needed to prove to you that I wasn’t going to be troublesome. Then... well, I was petty and jealous whenever I saw you around Temari-san and that female doctor... they were always hanging around you and I could see clearly that the doctor liked you...”

He sighed. “Could you blame me for thinking women are troublesome? Between my mom and hanging around Sakura and Ino it’s difficult to not see them as troublesome. Wait... that doctor liked me?”

She looked at him in surprise. “You never noticed?”

"It took your brother beating me over the head for me to realize you liked me. Did you think I would notice anyone else that liked me?"

She laughed. "I suppose you have a point."

A ninja suddenly appeared before them. A messenger no doubt. “Shikamaru, you are needed back at the tents. Hokage has a new mission lined up for you concerning the Akatsuki.”

Shikamaru sighed and waved at the man. “Fine fine. I’ll be there in a minute.” He turned toward Koya. “Looks like I have to go.”

She placed a hand on his shoulder. “Be careful, ok? The new Hokage can’t be trusted.”

“I know.” He started to head back down the hill, turned around and planted a quick kiss on her lips. “Wait for me when I get back, ok?”

She blushed and nodded “Always do.”

And with that he left, leaving Koya love struck and giddy. Haiiromaru barked at her. “Hey now! I can’t help it. Don’t I deserve to finally smile like this?”

Owari.
It's finally up!! No thanks to my laptop crappy out on me, but here's the fanfic to the picture I drew of Koya and Shikamaru finally confessing their love to each other. ^^

Thus the love blossoms of Nara Shikamaru and Inuzuka Koya.

Bubble Hill is a hill Shikamaru likes to lay on underneath a tree and watch the clouds. It is where Koya joins him and blows bubbles for him so he has more than just clouds to watch.
